If you’re in Nepal, you cannot miss out on the capital, Kathmandu, which is also your arrival city. Kathmandu is one of the major tourist destinations of Nepal, overflowing with culture and history vividly displayed in the form of art and architecture in stunning temples, stupas, monasteries, and traditional houses. The city is deeply rooted in Newari culture and history, with Hinduism and Buddhism being the most followed religions.

In this honey hunting package, exploration in Kathmandu enhances your whole tour experience by adding an extra layer of cultural experiences. As you explore the UNESCO listed world heritage sites such as Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square, you will be mesmerised by the depth and diversity of Kathmandu's heritage sites. Apart from the sightseeing, you can explore the markets and major tourist hubs like Thamel. Kathmandu also offers you a chance to try delicious local food such as momo and enjoy the authentic Newari cuisines.

Patan and Bhaktapur Exploration

Bhaktapur, being a historically rich town, grabs the visitor's attention with a captivating Newari culture, art, and traditions. Your exploration in Bhaktapur Durbar Square will lead you to the towering five-story Nyatapola Temple, brilliantly designed 55-window palace, radiant Golden Gate, revered Dattatreya Temple, and many other artistic structures of the 15th century. Here, you can also participate in the pottery activities in the local shop and enjoy the local yoghurt, Juju Dhau, which is a must-try of Bhaktapur.

While in Patan, you will be visiting the Patan Durbar Square, a former royal palace of the Malla period that is home to various artistic temples, courtyards, museums, and hitis (stone tap). Here, you will explore the structures such as the Krishna Mandir, Golden Temple, Patan Museum, and others. Also, you will find yourself travelling back in time as you walk through the alleys and corners of the square. All in all, your Patan and Bhaktapur sightseeing is a remarkable day tour composed of rich history, engaging activities, and cultural indulgences in this honey hunting tour package.

Honey Hunting Site

While the exact location for the hunting may vary, the honey hunting site is usually located in the remote regions of Nepal, from 3000 to 10000 feet, surrounded by beautiful landscapes, high cliffs, and pristine forest. During your stay, you will join skilled honey hunters as they perform this fascinating practice, scaling the high cliffs to gather the honey from the hive of the giant honeybees. As an observer, you will gain a rare glimpse into this challenging process, which demands remarkable bravery and skill. You will watch the whole process from gathering the tools to preparation, harvesting, and tasting the honey.

Your 3 days in the hunting location will be filled with immersive experiences. You will have a close interaction with the local communities, learn their way of life and learn about the cultural significance of the traditional honey hunting practice among their communities. Also, there will be a cultural performance by locals in the village where you will be able to have an even more intimate experience with their culture. As you witness the people circumambulating the stupa, you can feel its significance and serenity. There are various cosy cafes and restaurants around the area of Boudhanath that serve different continental cuisines. You can have your lunch there according to your timing. Later in the afternoon, you will visit the Swayambhunath Stupa, famously known as the Monkey Temple, a religious site with Hindu and Buddhist harmony. You must climb certain steps to reach the top of the hill, where the stupa is located. After that, your next exploration will be at Kathmandu Durbar Square, one of the three Durbar squares, where you will travel through the historical lane.

At 05:00 PM: Once you finish your sightseeing, you will be transferred to your hotel. Or you can also go to the nearest dining areas, such as Thamel or Durbar Marg, to enjoy a delicious dinner.

Pashupatinath Temple is the largest and holiest shrine for Hindus, dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple, situated on the bank of the Bagmati River, was built in the 5th century. It is represented by a four faced shiva-lingam housed in the main temple. There are around 492 temples, 15 Shivalayas (shrines of Lord Shiva), and 12 Jyotirlingas (phallic shrines) to explore. Although only Hindus are allowed to enter the temple, visitors can clearly see the temple and the activities performed on the temple premises from the eastern bank of the Bagmati river. A centre for Hindu pilgrimage, this temple hosts different major festivals, such as Maha Shivaratri, and pujas, such as Rudra Abhishek and evening Aarti. Additionally, no entrance fee is charged for Indian nationals to enter the temple.

Boudhanath is one of the largest stupas in the world, attracting visitors for its religious and spiritual significance. Around the base of the stupa, you’ll find 108 small niches housing statues of the Dhyani Buddha Amitabha, representing the different stages of enlightenment. It is a sacred place for both Tibetan Buddhists and locals.

Believed to be the oldest Buddhist shrine in Nepal, the history of the Swayambhunath Stupa dates back 2500 years. Also known as a Monkey Temple, it is a hilltop pilgrimage site surrounded by smaller temples, stupas, and monasteries. This site shows the perfect harmony of Hindu and Buddhist religions with the combination of Buddhist stupas and Hindu shrines.

Kathmandu Durbar Square, the ancient site that was once the royal palace of the Malla kings, showcases the city’s rich cultural and architectural heritage. It is surrounded by palaces, temples, courtyards, and statues, with the centerpiece, Hanuman Dhoka, displaying Newari architecture and craftsmanship. Besides that, other heritage sites, such as Kumari Ghar (Living Goddess), Kasthamandap, Jagannath Temple, and Taleju Temple, make the square attractive.
